Program Overview

Offered at our main campus in Tallahassee, Florida, our nationally accredited Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program provides students with quality preparation to pursue nursing careers in all specialties and areas of nursing. The BSN program is a limited access/limited enrollment upper division major comprised of sequential course offerings and elective courses. Students are accepted each Fall, Spring, and Summer semester. Graduates of the BSN program are well-prepared for the national licensure exam to become a registered nurse (RN) and have the foundation necessary to pursue higher education.

The BSN program isFOURconsecutivesemesters in length (15-16 months) and provides learning experiences in various clinical settings, including community health agencies, clinics, hospitals, and homes.Nursing courses include classroom and laboratory activities correlated with supervised clinical practice experiences. Students will develop skills in managing patients from various backgrounds and cultures. The program moves through the continuum of care and the spectrum of complexity in the clinical setting across the lifespan.

Application and Admissions

The College of Nursing at Florida State University utilizes a holistic admissions process that assesses an applicant’s unique experiences alongside traditional measures of academic achievement. Community engagement and work experience are considered along with the overall grade point average and science prerequisite grade point average to select the most qualified applicants for entry into our program. This approach allows us to use multiple sources of information to get the fullest picture of each applicant’s potential and helps ensure the potential for success in both nursing school and later as a professional nurse. The entire application packet is evaluated by the Undergraduate Admissions Committee, which is composed of faculty from the undergraduate program.

June 1, 2024 to July 1, 2024

Summer 2025 Admission

Applications are accepted
October 1, 2024 to November 1, 2024

Fall 2025 Admission

Applications are accepted
January 1, 2025 to February 1, 2025

  • All application requirements for Spring 2025 Admission must be received by the July 1, 2024 application deadline to be eligible for admissions consideration.
  • All non-FSU students and transfer students must apply to the University as well as complete the College of Nursing application.

Please Note: The Admissions Committee uses a holistic assessment process that considers many factors, including student experiences and academic metrics. Due to clinical space limitations, not all qualified applicants can be admitted.

Prerequisite requirements specific to nursing:

To be qualified for admissions, applicants must have a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 and earn a C or better in all prerequisite coursework. Please note, a C- (minus) is not accepted for prerequisite coursework. Courses must be retaken and successfully completed with a C or better to qualify for admissions.

Minimally, the following criteria must be met:

Students are admitted through a competitive application process to the College of Nursing after they have completed the nursing prerequisites and a minimum of sixty (60) credit hours of courses that fulfill General Education / Graduation Requirements per the FSU catalog or an Associate of Arts (A.A.) degree from an accredited Florida public institution. To be qualified for admissions, applicants must have a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 and earn a C or better in all prerequisite coursework. Please note, a C- (minus) is not accepted for prerequisite coursework. Courses may be retaken and successfully completed with a C or better to qualify for admissions.

  • Students must complete allnursing prerequisitesby the end of the semester in which they submit their application.
  • Students must complete allgeneral education requirementsby the end of the semester in which they submit their application.
  • Students must complete the followinggraduation requirementsby the end of the semester in which they submit their application. Students must choose one of the following options:
    • Option A: 2 state-mandated writing, 1 civic literacy, 1 diversity, and 1 oral communication
    • Option B: 2 state-mandated writing, 1 civic literacy, and 2 diversities
  • Example: If the application is submitted in the Spring for Fall admission,all nursing prerequisites, general education requirements,and the listed graduation requirements must be completed by the end of the Spring semester.

Due to the limited availability of clinical learning facilities enrollment is limited to 150 seats per admission cycle. All applicants must meet admissions requirements by the end of the semester that they apply to be considered for admission. Any questions regarding course equivalency for use towards any prerequisites will require a detailed course syllabus to determine content if it is not listed on the Accepted Prerequisites from Other Colleges document.

Additionally, alladmitted nursing students, mustprovide proof of current health insurance prior to enrollment into Florida State University. Upon offer of admission into the program, students will be given the steps to complete this process and the option to purchase individual health insurance through the University.     • Official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended MUST BEsubmitted with your NursingCAS application.
      • All students, including FSU students, must submit their full transcripts within NursingCAS as the system requires it for verification.
      • Transcripts are required through NursingCAS for verification and verificationis required for the application to be sent tothe FSU College of Nursing for review.
      • Applicants who failto submit all transcripts before the deadline cannotbe reviewed by the FSU College of Nursing within NursingCAS.

  • Alltransfer and non-FSUapplicants must ALSO submit theFlorida State UniversityTransfer application.
    • Official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended and any necessary test scores must be sent to Florida State Universityin addition to the Transfer Application.

  • Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from clinicals.
  • During Semester 2, students may be required to travel to surrounding counties for community clinicals.Students are responsible for their own transportation.
  • During Semester 3, students attend clinicals at Wolfson's Children's Hospital in Jacksonville for one three-day weekend. Students are responsible for transportation and lodging.
  • During Semester 4, students may be placed outside Tallahassee for their internship. Every effort will be made to accommodate students' requests for placement. Students are responsible for all transportation and living costs.
